Pocket Places

Norwich-based Pocket Places wins Travolution Award for Best Mobile Application with Pocket Places Guide.

“The judges were impressed with the compelling content and multi-media approach which has done more than simply regurgitate the guide book experience onto a mobile device.”

Pocket Places also won a grant from the Technology Strategy Board that enabled them to research how they could make their travel guides more entertaining and have experimented with comedy and other styles including a series of Ghost Stories in York! Audio is key part of what they do and they plan to move in to video shortly - all delivered to a handheld device.

Pocket Britain will tell you everything you need to know about all the UK’s major tourist hot spots, in a fun, informative and interactive format, simply by using your mobile phone; replacing your guidebook, paper map and leaflets from the tourist information centre. The system will be free to use from a mobile phone, netbook, laptop or PC and features an incredible range of information, such as places of interest, historical sites and attractions, accommodation, pubs, travel and weather information, all backed up by fascinating facts, interactive maps and loads of great photographs.

With Pocket Britain you will also be able to listen to a range of helpful – and in some cases amusing - audio commentaries on major sites. Plus, it will give you the opportunity to send electronic postcards, sign guest books, post your reviews on places or attractions, and buy holiday accessories, gadgets and clothes.
