built heritage & urban landscape

The region’s heritage stretches back to Ancient and Roman times with Medieval, Tudor and Elizabethan England evident in many towns and villages. During WWII the East of England was dotted with military airfields, many of which are available for filming. Meanwhile busy metropolitan centres have developed into thriving urban hubs with modern 21st century architecture.

St Albans
St Albans is an attractive historic city with an impressive Cathedral and interesting period buildings. There is a weekly street market and a number of pedestrianised areas with chain and boutique retail shops complemented by restaurants and cafes. St Albans also has a high proportion of public houses per square mile. The city is extremely film friendly having hosted many feature films and television programmes.

Showreel: First Knight; Incendiary; Johnny English.

Ipswich
Ipswich town combines timber framed buildings and a largely pedestrianised shopping area with glass fronted office blocks and a modern developed waterfront and marina. The industrialised dock has been transformed into an emerging attractive residential and commercial centre. The town remains largely unexplored by filmmakers.

Elm Hill
Elm Hill is one of the oldest streets in the historic city of Norwich. It retains its Tudor character with its quaint, narrow cobbled street lined either side by genuine Tudor houses. Many of the buildings were transformed into the village of Stormhold for the filming of Stardust with the tea room dressed to become ‘The Slaughtered Prince’ public house; the road was closed for the period of the shoot.

Lavenham
Lavenham is well known as one of the best preserved and finest medieval towns in the country. The appearance of the town has changed little over the years: half-timbered houses lean crazily over the narrow streets, whilst the Guildhall (built in 1529) is perhaps the town´s most prominent feature.

Wisbech
Wisbech, Capital of the Fens, is a market town of great character and historical importancem from it's Georgian architecture, to it's Church and museum.
