Congratulations to 3 of our Digital Shorts teams!
Bro, The Midge and Crash! Bang! Wallow? are all in competition at the 2010 SOHO RUSHES Short Film Festival! Well done to Chris Dundon and Johnny Blagrove for Bro (again - it's not getting boring though all this attention!) Rory Lowe and JJ Lowe (and the team at Once Were Farmers) for The Midge, and Jon Dunleavy and Keith Wilson Singer for CBW.
Also HUGE congratulations to Jon and Keith for Crash! Bang! Wallow? winning the National Film Board of Canada/ YouTube / Cannes Short Film Corner online competition! That laptop and camera will need to be cut in half to make it fair.......
This years shorts are in pre production - we have four brilliant projects and amazing teams gearing up to shoot in the next month which is really exciting!!
Enjoy the sunshine everyone!
Samx

Congratulations to Chris Dundon and Johnny Blagrove for the special mention their Digital Shorts 'Bro' received at the 56th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen.
Over 6000 short films were submitted to the worlds oldest short film festival and only 100 were selected. In the youth competition the programmers selected 37 films from 17 countries. (thanks Chris - I cribbed this from your Bro news sent out on Facebook!)
Go to the news section of the website for information on how you can VOTE FOR US! Jon Dunleavy and Keith Wilson Singers short film Crash! Bang! Wallow? has been shortlist as part of the National Film Board of Canada's short film competition in association with Cannes Short Film Corner and YouTube - vote and give us the majority!
In other news we have been inundated with applications for the latest round of our Low Carbon Fund and have appointed our exciting executive producer pool - I can't wait to start working with them all as they are such brilliant industry folk!
Myself, Laurie Hayward and Fergus Rolfe (Low Carbon Consultant for the fund) are off to Cannes on Thursday (Volcanic ash permitting!) - we have two events we are involved in while we are out there - see the UK Film Council website for details of these and other great events at the UK Film Centre.

After much deliberation myself and Julia Caithness (brilliant DS Exec Producer for UKFC) decided on our 2010 slate of films. We selected 4 films in the end to allow for slightly bigger budgets for the filmmakers which is very exciting! The filmmakers and projects are:
Ellie, written and directed by Chris Dundon (producer TBC)
I Wish I Were an Elephant written by Karen Penman, directed, animated and produced by Karen Penman and Liam Brazier
Where There's Smoke written and directed by Andrew Brand (producer TBC)
Sunny Boy written and directed by Jane Gull, produced by Emma Curtis
I will keep you updated on their progress.

So begins that lovely time of year for the Digital Shorts - festival season!
Congratulations to Chris Dundon, writer and director of Bro which is in competition at The Beverly Hills Film Festival, The Singapore International Film Festival, The Seattle International Film Festival and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. A win at one of these festivals could qualify us to enter the Academy Awards so fingers crossed!
Also congratulations to Andrew Brand, writer and director of Things We Leave Behind - in competition at The Hull International Short Film Festival and The East End Film Festival.
Good Luck to both of you!
All of the Digital Shorts slate 2009/10 will be in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in May, with Screen East having a presence at the festival.
I will of course update you on any wins and further festival news as it comes in!

It's a very exciting date in the Digital Shorts calendar. We are having our industry screening tonight at the very lovely Charlotte Street Hotel in London. We have some great industry professionals coming to see our films and meet our talented filmmakers. It's always such a nice night and a great excuse to celebrate all the hard work that everyone has put in over the last year (and longer for some!) I look forward to raising a glass with all the lovely filmmakers!

On Tuesday 9th February we screened three of the 2009 slate of Digital Shorts at BAFTA as part of a Screen Agency showcase of short films. Many of the cast and crew of the films as well as the key team of writer, director and producer came along. Everyone had a great night and a lot of networking was done! It was a great rehearsal for our industry screening in March, where some of the UK Film Industry's most interesting and influential producers, agents, sales companies, funders and other professionals come to see our films and enjoy a drink with the filmmakers. It promises to be a great night for our brilliant filmmakers.
I personally enjoyed the night at BAFTA as I got to have a lovely chat with Tom Harper, director of The Scouting Book for Boys (on general release in selected cinemas on 19th March) a wonderful film which shot in our region last summer - he's a very talented director - everyone should go and see it!

Had a busy week promoting the new screenings of archive film we've produced. ITV Anglia News featured the Christmas Past compilation including an interview with Norwich man, Jonathan Keeley who was only 3 when his Dad filmed him and his bro opening their stockings (or rather large pillowcases!) on Xmas Day back in the early 60's.
Take a look at our Screening Diary to see where you can catch our films in the region. We're looking out for more public screen opportunities so email me j.jarvis@screeneast.co.uk if you have any suggestions. The Big Screen at Chapelfield in Norwich are also screening a new production 'the games, the goals and the glory' featuring some great amateur footage taken from the terraces by fans as far back as 1913 when Norwich City played Leicester - it's all leather balls and baggy shorts.

After reading 112 scripts, interviewing 18 teams and projects, we have finally got our Digital Shorts 2010 development slate! We have chosen seven projects to be developed with our highly skilled development executives and will be commissioning five of those for production later next year. It's a very exciting time - developing scripts is brilliant and there's so much scope to get our teeth into to get the best out of the projects.
The seven projects and teams will be announced early next year.
Have a great Christmas and New Year - i'll be back blogging in January!
